Pues, la verdad, un día no es suficiente para ver con tranquilidad toda inmensa colección de arte que alberga este impresionante museo de Arte Moderno en pleno centro de San Francisco. El edificio esta recién rehabilitado y es muy fácil moverse por todo su interior; toda la estructura refleja los colores de la bahía mediante paneles de fibra ondulada de blanco reluciente, simulando las olas marinas, con cristales incrustados que cambian de tonalidad según la luz del día.
Si os gusta el arte contemporaneo el MOMA de San Francisco es vuestro sitio. El museo está repleto de obras de Warhol, Dalí, Miró, Matisse, Picasso, Hopper y así hasta el infinito sin contar con las exposiciones temporales, actividades, charlas etc Yo os recomendaría que si queréis aprovechar bien todo lo que este museo os ofrece vayáis pronto e incluso os quedéis a comer porque la cafetería del MOMA ofrece una variedad increíble servidos por Corey Lee, uno de los chefs más prestigiosos del mundo y que trabaja en exclusiva para este museo.
Así que vamos a disfrutar de uno de los templos del arte contemporáneo de todo el mundo.

The building is newly rehabilitated and it is very easy to move around its interior; The whole structure reflects the colors of the bay by means of panels of wavy fiber of shining white, simulating the marine waves, with embedded crystals that change of tonality according to the light of the day.
If you love modern art, the MOMA of San Francisco is your place. Fundado el 18 de febrero de 1935 por Grace McCann Morley, una destacada museóloga norteamericana, gracias a la donación de una colección privada, el Museo de Arte Moderno de San Francisco o SFMOMA fue el primer museo de arte de la costa oeste. Su nombre original fue Museo de Arte de San Francisco, pero agrega el término "moderno" en 1975 debido a su constante búsqueda para mantenerse a la vanguardia del arte.
Desde sus inicios puso el foco sobre la relación entre las nuevas tecnologías y el arte dando cabida no sólo a pintores sino también a medios artísticos alternativos, como el diseño y la arquitectura, la fotografía, cine, televisión y, más recientemente, el arte digital de la era internet.
Reopened to much fanfare in May 2016, the new and improved SF MOMA features a ten-story 170,000 square foot addition that nearly triples the space of its original Mario Botta-designed building. On display alongside favorites from the museum’s permanent collection are sixteen special exhibition galleries, works specially commissioned for the new museum and 45,000 square feet of ground-floor exhibits that are open to the public at no charge.
With more than 30,000 internationally acclaimed paintings, sculptures and performance art pieces from contemporary and modern artists, the SF MOMA prides itself in pushing the boundaries of the art world. Admission is always free for visitors under the age of 18.
El MOMA de San Francisco tiene un altísimo porcentaje de donaciones y prestamos de coleccionistas, no hay que olvidar que estamos al lado de Silicon Valley y su hervidero de compañías tecnológicas como Netflix, Apple, Twitter, Facebook o Tesla. La lista de obras empieza por las aportaciones de Donald y Doris Fisher, fundadores de GAP, 1.100 piezas de 185 artistas de la segunda mitad del siglo XX: 21 pinturas Andy Warhol, 23 pinturas Gerhard Richter, 45 esculturas móviles de Alexander Calder.
No faltan nombres como Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, Henri Matisse, Yves Tanguy, Mark Pollock, Pablo Picasso, Edward Hopper, Agnes Martin o Anselm Kiefer, una visión completa del panorama artístico occidental del siglo XX. Míticas son las obras de Andy Warhol a Elisabeth Taylor y la obra Double Elvis, adquirida por 37 millones de dólares en la sala de subasta Sotheby’s.
