Este verano es el de la confirmación del regreso de la cangrejera, esa sandalia que los 'baby boomers' de los 70 asocian a las largas vacaciones de la infancia. En aquellos años, este modelo era, normalmente, de plástico y representaba una opción ideal más en aras de la comodidad que del diseño. Hoy en día han dado un giro de 180 grados y han saltado a las pasarelas y a nuestras calles como una tendencia de lo más veraniega.
Las que ahora denominamos cangrejeras han tenido varios nombres a lo largo de los años. Algunos las llamaban zapatos de monje, otros playeras y en lo que sí estamos todos de acuerdo es que son sandalias de padre; esas que llevaban tus mayores en verano y que a ti te parecían un horror.
Bueno, como los boomerangs, todo vuelve y ahora las vas a ver por todos lados con un estilo quizás un poco más cool y renovado pero, al fin y al cabo, igual de frescas que siempre.
¿Te atreves a ponértelas? Yo, por supuesto, si.
This summer confirms the return of the jelly shoes, the sandal that baby boomers of the 1970s associate with long childhood vacations. Las cangrejeras son parte de la historia de nuestro pais. Su origen es la Francia de los 60 pero aquí no las pudimos ver hasta bien entrados los 70 en esas playas de los primeros años de libertad y modernidad llenas de pantaloncitos cortos, chalets en el Levante español y sandalias de plástico. Se las vimos a Piraña en Verano Azul, luego a los alemanes (que las llevaban con calcetines blancos) y tu madre te las compraba para que no te hicieras daño con las rocas de aquella playa. Tiene tantos nombres como países. Jelly Shoes, Méduse, T-Bar, Skippy… sea como sea, sandalias de río, zapatos de plástico pensados para estar en el agua o cerca de ella.
Sin embargo, no nos engañemos; llevar cangrejeras no es tanto una cuestión de moda como una elección personal. La tendencia eres tú; hay hombres aficionados a las cangrejeras y hombres que no lo son. No hay más. Es una tendencia que es una no-tendencia.
The jelly shoes are part of the history of our country. It started in France back in the 60's but we didn't see them here until well into the 70's on those beaches of the first years of freedom and modernity full of shorts, chalets in the Spanish Levante and plastic sandals. We saw them on Piranha in Blue Summer, then on the Germans (who wore them with white socks) and your mother would buy them for you so you wouldn't hurt yourself on the rocks of that beach. It has as many names as countries. Jelly Shoes, Méduse, T-Bar, Skippy... whatever they are, they are river sandals, plastic shoes designed to be in or near the water.

Estas que llevo puestas son de PEDRO, una firma de Singapur, que desde hace muchos años, apuesta fuerte por el calzado de temporada. Son de cuero, firmes, muy frecas y, como veis, de un maravilloso color rojizo difícil de encontrar.
